July 2007 Offer
Jun 29
Been looking hard at what’s on offer, and at the moment, we are really between big shipments of new crops.
For late August/early September, there are some great coffees en route, such as:
- Guatemala Tres Marias Huehuetenango
- Guatemala Organic La Quebrada
- Guatemala Genuine Antigua Los Volcanes
- Guatemala SHB RFA Nueva Granada EP
- Mexican SHG Organic Estate “El Olivo”
- Honduras SHG Organic La Labor
- El Salvador SHG Santa Elena Estate
But for now, I have a couple of suggestions. There are two ‘different’ Brazils just becoming available.
They are both Daterra RFA beans, which means that the quality will be there (the Daterra FRA ‘Sweet Collection’ remains a staple here):
- Brazil Daterra RFA Reserve
- Brazil Daterra RFA Reserve Vintage
They are dearer, at around $10-10.50 per kg, but promise to be something unusual (I’ll wait to taste, though)
Also currently available is new crop MAO Ethiopian Harar ‘Blue Horse’.
I’ve been using this here for tha last 2-3 weeks and am impressed with it. As as much berry and apricot as the Fair Trade Harar we offered last year. $6.90per kg.
There’s also new supplies of:
- Fair Trade Timor Arabica Organic
- Genuine Bali Shinzan Arabica
- Costa Rica SHB Tarrazu EP (about to taste)
And for the hot chocoholics, our roaster friend, Dean Morgan now makes his own premium, organic, gluten free drinking chocolate which I’ve also been drinking here, and I have supplies of that @$16 a kilo pack.
So, what’s the feeling people?
I’m happy to source a bag of a couple of different types, if I know there is the demand for them…

Neil,
I’d definitely be interested in a good Brazilian. Probably the Timor as well.

I’m keen for more chocolate.

Brazillian, yes, me too. If not the “Reserve” or Vintage then even the regular Daterra Sweet Collection would be good.
I’m over-stocked with Guat and El Salvador beans at the moment, but would like to try some Mexican and Honduran beans.

Any brazil RFA sounds great. Harar sounds good. what does MAO mean? Guatemala RFA also sounds good. and choc!

Matt, MAO is just the company that the bean comes through (I think it’s the initials of the owner from memory).
Looks like the Brazil gets in this time, and then in August/September, a feast of Centrals!

Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Timor all desirable.
I need a break from Brazil, I’ve had too much of it lately!
Thanks, Neil!

Hi, I’m very keen to hear a report on the Bali Shinzan. Haven’t had it for a few years & it is still one of my all time favourites.

@Gerry: I have personal stock that I’m happy to onsell via my website: http://ministrygrounds.net.au The Harar isn’t up there yet, but will be very shortly.
@Jeepster: I’ll endeavour to grab a sample of the Bali next time I’m there… ;-)
