In the previous post I mentioned these looked interesting as this month’s offer, while we wait for the flood of Centrals in August:
- Brazil Daterra RFA Reserve
- Brazil Daterra RFA Reserve Vintage
As with a number of Daterra beans, these come packed not in traditional jute bags, but in vacuum sealed foil pouches and heavy cardboard boxes. So… a sample for tasting is not practical, and we would have to buy ‘blind’
But our faithful supporter, Andrew, at the wholesalers has come to the rescue and supplied the formal cupping notes he made from the buying auction in Brazil earlier this year:
“Note: the Vintage is essentially the Reserve from the award winning 05 crop. Similar cup character with a little more pronounced body.
Reserve
Rich, well balanced chocolate, perfect ripe; syrupy smooth, great mouth feel, nutty, light citrus notes with a slight chocolate finish and nice Caramel flavour.
It is like a bar of dark chocolate. It has the potency and bitter-sweetness of a dry red wine, and the aftertaste is very much chocolate liqueur. Intense and complex.
Powerful aromatics, sweet pronounced floral fragrance and flavour, bold yet round and smooth, exciting finish. Very well balanced flavour, body and acidity.
Recommended Uses:
Daterra Reserve is the quintessential cup of single origin estate brewed coffee. Its delicate yet bold flowery aromatics carry through to the aftertaste creating an unforgettable cup.
Impact – Magnificent, remarkable and complex. A great coffee.
Aroma – Floral and sweet fragrances.
Flavour – Vanilla, Caramel, chocolate touch and honey
Sweetness – sparkling and gentle
Acidity – Refined acidity
Body – Refined and velvet body.
Aftertaste – Lingering chocolate”
Based on that description, form a queue!
At this point, I plan on buying some of each. They are virtually identical in price.
If you are interested in quantities larger than 5Kg, can you indicate below? That will help in planning the purchase next week.
Offer email will go out in the next day or so.
